The police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the incident was reported at the Maje Divisional Police Station after the children’s father discovered that his Toyota Highlander, with registration number ABJ 810 GZ, and the children inside it were missing.

According to the police, the man had taken the children to Government School, Suleja, to seek admission but was unable to proceed because their documents were incomplete.

He reportedly parked by the roadside near the school, handed the vehicle keys to the children and went to a nearby computer centre to photocopy the required documents. When he returned, he discovered that the vehicle and the children were no longer at the location.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer mobilised officers to the area. The team questioned the school’s security personnel and launched search patrols along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The search led to the discovery of the abandoned vehicle, with the children found stranded nearby. Police said the children were rescued unharmed and the vehicle was recovered and searched.

During questioning, the children reportedly told investigators that they had fallen asleep while waiting for their father to return. The command said further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance was ongoing.

In a separate incident in Minna, the police have arrested a 28-year-old woman, Safiya Tukur, over an alleged assault on her husband during a domestic dispute in the Darusalam area of Kpakungu.

Abiodun said the disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the woman allegedly used a sharp object to injure her husband.

The victim was taken to General Hospital, Minna, for medical attention, while the suspect was arrested by the police.

According to the police spokesperson, Tukur admitted during interrogation to causing the injury during the altercation. The command said she had been charged to court and remanded, with proceedings continuing.

The two incidents highlight separate security and public-safety concerns in Niger State, with police continuing investigations into the circumstances surrounding the children’s disappearance and the alleged domestic assault.
