The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu-Aliyu, said officers were deployed to the scene after receiving a distress call that a 40-year-old man, Musa Mohammed, had been apprehended by residents over the alleged offence.
Police took Mohammed into custody for investigation. According to the command, preliminary questioning linked him to two other men, Mohammed Baki of Gashua and Haruna Wakil Sano, popularly known as Kogi, who were allegedly involved in stealing equipment from farms in the Duhuwu Nima area.
Investigators said the suspects allegedly sold the equipment to Adamu Abubakar, who was subsequently traced and arrested.
A search of Abubakar’s residence led to the recovery of two water pump generators, discharge and suction hoses, two gas cylinders and 10 solar panels. Police said the items were reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
The command further disclosed that Haruna Wakil Sano, who was initially at large, was arrested during a follow-up operation on October 22. Police said he also admitted to involvement in the alleged offence.
Efforts were continuing to apprehend Mohammed Baki, who remained at large according to the latest reports, while investigations into the case continued.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended the officers involved in the operation for their efforts in recovering the suspected stolen property and arresting the suspects.
He urged farmers and other residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, stressing the importance of protecting agricultural equipment that supports farming operations and rural livelihoods.
The police command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and called on members of the public to provide credible information that could help prevent and investigate crime.
The three arrested men remain suspects, and the allegations against them have yet to be determined by a court.
