The incidents involved an alleged petrol-fuelled fire attack that claimed the life of a man in Gwaram and a fatal stabbing allegedly triggered by a dispute over a N500 balance from a mobile phone purchase in Dutse.

The police said the cases were being investigated and that the suspects had been taken through the legal process.

According to the command's spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the first incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on September 29, 2026, in Nassarawa village, Gwaram LGA.

Adam said a 27-year-old man identified as Abbas Ibrahim allegedly entered the residence of his elder brother, Basiru Shuaibu, and poured petrol into his room before setting it on fire.

Basiru and his wife reportedly sustained serious burns in the incident. Relatives later took them for treatment, but Basiru eventually died from injuries sustained in the fire.

The police said Ibrahim was subsequently arrested in Sara town, also in Gwaram LGA, after investigators began looking into the incident.

The suspect reportedly claimed to be of unsound mind. However, that claim is attributed to the suspect and does not by itself establish a medical diagnosis or legal finding.

The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for further investigation, while the police said the suspect had been arraigned in court.

In a separate incident in Dutse, police arrested a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, over the alleged stabbing death of 25-year-old Muhammad Abba.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, in Chamo village, Dutse LGA.

According to the police account, Abba had purchased a mobile phone from Safiyanu for N1,500 and paid N1,000, leaving an outstanding balance of N500.

An argument reportedly followed over the unpaid balance, during which Safiyanu allegedly stabbed Abba with a knife.

Abba was rushed to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical treatment but died while receiving care, police said.

The suspect was arrested, while the knife allegedly used in the incident was recovered by investigators as an exhibit. The police said the investigation had been completed and that Safiyanu had been charged to court.

Following the two incidents, Jigawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities, threats and disputes to the police or other relevant security agencies.

The police maintained that the suspects would face the law, while the allegations against them remain subject to the judicial process.
