The event, held at the state Ministry of Agriculture, featured displays of agricultural products and activities highlighting the contribution of farmers and other participants in the agricultural value chain.

The celebration forms part of activities marking World Food Day, observed globally on October 16 each year to raise awareness about food security, hunger and the need for sustainable food systems.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced that the 2026 global theme is “Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow,” focusing on how innovation, traditional knowledge and inclusive approaches can help improve access to nutritious food while protecting the environment.

In Enugu, the agricultural harvest fair is designed as an annual platform for farmers to display their produce, exchange ideas and engage with government representatives on ways to improve agricultural productivity.

The programme also provides an opportunity for the state government to support farmers with agricultural seedlings intended to help expand production. The initiative is expected to strengthen farming activities and encourage greater participation across the state’s agricultural value chain.

By bringing farmers and other stakeholders together, the celebration highlights the importance of agriculture to food availability, rural livelihoods and economic development. It also offers a platform to identify practical needs within the sector and encourage collaboration towards more productive and sustainable farming.
