The arrests were disclosed as part of Operation Serengeti III, a multinational law enforcement initiative targeting cybercrime and financially motivated digital offences across several countries.

According to information published by INTERPOL, the operation ran from June 29 to August 31, 2026, and involved law enforcement agencies from 21 countries working together to identify suspects, disrupt criminal networks and recover illicit funds.

One of the Nigerian investigations led to the arrest of a suspect allegedly linked to a large-scale phishing and business email compromise operation. Investigators said the operation involved the theft of software credentials and the collection of approximately 2.1 million email addresses.

Authorities also recovered a luxury vehicle suspected to have been purchased with proceeds from criminal activities.

In a separate case, Nigerian authorities arrested another suspect over an alleged international investment fraud scheme promoted through messaging applications.

Financial investigations reportedly traced more than $2.4 million in suspected criminal proceeds to the scheme, with a significant portion allegedly laundered through cryptocurrency transactions.

INTERPOL did not disclose the identities of the two suspects in its published statement.

The cases highlight the growing international reach of cybercrime, with criminal networks increasingly using digital platforms, compromised business communications and cryptocurrency transactions to facilitate fraud and move suspected illicit funds across borders.
