African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has spoken about his appearance at the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s National Thanksgiving Service in Lagos, revealing details of a private meeting he later had with the church’s General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Sowore attended the service at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute-Metta on Sunday, October 4, 2026, alongside the AAC National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe.
According to Sowore, he received an enthusiastic welcome after he was introduced to the congregation during the service. He later described the reception as a sign that his message of national renewal and political change was gaining wider attention.
In a post shared on social media, the AAC candidate said the church members gave him a warm reception and suggested that his message of “hope, revolutionary justice, and national renewal” continued to resonate with Nigerians.
Sowore recounts private meeting with Adeboye
After the thanksgiving service, Sowore said he was granted a private meeting with Pastor Adeboye.
The politician claimed that the RCCG leader offered to pray for him and told him that he had been following his activities.
Sowore further said Adeboye described his path as honourable and expressed confidence in his eventual “triumph.”
The claim was also reported by several Nigerian media outlets following Sowore’s social media posts.
The encounter, according to Sowore, was particularly significant because it was not their first meeting.
He recalled meeting Adeboye in 1996, shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps programme. Sowore said he encountered the cleric at the same location while involved in efforts against campus cultism.
Thirty years later, he said, they met again at the RCCG headquarters.
Sowore expressed appreciation for the reception he received from members of the church and for what he described as a meaningful conversation and prayers from Adeboye.
Sowore insists visit was not political
Despite his growing political profile ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Sowore maintained that his attendance at the service was not intended to advance a political agenda.
His visit nevertheless generated discussions online, particularly because other political figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, were also present at the service. Contemporary reports confirm that Sanwo-Olu attended the RCCG thanksgiving service, where he and Adeboye spoke about national service and responsible leadership.
Sowore later took aim at supporters of Peter Obi, popularly known as the “Obidients,” over what he described as their reaction to his appearance at the church.
He argued that the response to his presence showed that the AAC was increasingly being recognised as a major opposition force in Nigeria.
Sowore also claimed that the congregation reacted more enthusiastically to his introduction than it did when Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat were called.
Sowore’s RCCG appearance draws mixed reactions
The visit has attracted differing reactions on social media, with some users questioning the timing of the appearance while others praised Sowore for attending the service.
The AAC candidate has previously spoken about his Christian background, including his time with the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship during his early years at the University of Lagos.
Sowore is seeking to contest the 2027 presidential election under the African Action Congress, having previously contested the presidency in 2019 and 2023.
