The Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on South-South Mobilization, Abu Micheal, has called for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ododo ahead of the 2027 elections.
Micheal made the call during a mobilisation and familiarisation visit to APC members at the Army Barracks polling units in Ward A, Lokoja, where he met with party leaders, women, youths and polling-unit canvassers.
According to the governor’s aide, the push for another term for Tinubu and Ododo is being presented by supporters as an issue of continuity and consolidation of existing policies and programmes.
Micheal said Tinubu’s administration was pursuing reforms and programmes under the Renewed Hope agenda, while he credited the Ododo administration with efforts in areas including security, workers’ welfare, human capital development and inclusion.
He also highlighted the involvement of residents from the South-South in the state administration, arguing that the appointments and empowerment initiatives had helped create a greater sense of participation among non-indigenes living in Kogi.
The comments form part of a wider mobilisation effort by supporters of the APC in Kogi ahead of the 2027 elections. Governor Ododo has himself directed political appointees to strengthen grassroots engagement and communicate the programmes of both the state and federal governments to residents.
Micheal urged APC members at the Army Barracks polling units to remain organised and active at the grassroots, stressing the importance of polling-unit-level mobilisation to the party's campaign strategy.
The meeting was convened by Ward Special Assistant on Grassroots Mobilization (South-South), Joseph Bosede Adeleye, who said the initiative was intended to strengthen grassroots engagement ahead of the elections.
Adeleye also praised the Ododo administration for what she described as its attention to women and children, citing empowerment initiatives as well as investments in education and healthcare.
She said another term would provide an opportunity, in the view of the administration's supporters, to continue ongoing programmes. She also pledged the support of women in and around the Army Barracks polling units for Tinubu, Ododo and the APC.
One of the major activities during the visit was the presentation of NG-CARES programme approval letters to some beneficiaries in the Ward A area. Food condiments and other relief items were also distributed to women at the polling units.
The NG-CARES programme is an established government intervention framework in Kogi. The state government inaugurated a 13-member steering committee for NG-CARES 2.0 in May 2026, with the programme covering areas including social safety nets, livelihood support and agricultural value chains.
In September, the Kogi government also announced the rollout of NG-CARES interventions in Lokoja Local Government Area, saying the programme was intended to reach vulnerable residents across different wards and polling units.
The presentation of approval letters at the Ward A meeting therefore took place against the backdrop of the state's ongoing implementation of the programme. The specific number and value of the approval letters presented during the political mobilisation meeting were not stated in the available reports.
The beneficiaries reportedly expressed appreciation for the intervention, while participants at the meeting renewed their commitment to supporting the APC at the grassroots.
The event is part of a series of political mobilisation activities involving South-South residents and APC supporters in Kogi. In recent months, Micheal has participated in meetings and engagements focused on mobilising South-South residents behind the Tinubu and Ododo administrations ahead of 2027.
The political discussions come as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum. INEC has fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections and March 6, 2027, for governorship and State House of Assembly elections. However, Kogi is among the states excluded from the 2027 governorship election under the current electoral timetable because the tenure of its incumbent governor does not expire at the same time as governors in the states scheduled for the March 2027 poll.
For Kogi, the political mobilisation around Ododo's possible second term therefore remains a longer-term political process, while the state's APC structure continues to organise support for the party and President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
