Bakori gave the advice while delivering a lecture to graduating Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), Course 8, at the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

The commissioner said modern policing demands officers who understand democratic principles, communicate effectively and earn public trust through professionalism and responsible conduct.

Drawing on his 30 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, Bakori noted that law enforcement continues to evolve in response to emerging security challenges, making continuous learning and professional development essential for officers.

He urged the graduating cadets to exercise their authority responsibly, respect the fundamental rights of citizens and remain accountable in the performance of their duties.

According to him, intelligence-led policing and active community participation are vital to preventing crime and improving security outcomes. He stressed that officers must combine courage with discipline, integrity and sound professional judgment.

Bakori also highlighted the importance of collaboration between the police and local communities, noting that the Kano State Police Command had strengthened partnerships with traditional institutions, the Police Community Relations Committee and neighbouring police commands to improve security.

He encouraged the cadets to pursue further education and acquire relevant skills throughout their careers, describing knowledge and continuous training as important tools for effective leadership in contemporary policing.

On discipline, the commissioner urged the officers to obey lawful orders, exercise restraint and maintain high standards of conduct while carrying out their responsibilities.

He further reminded them that rank alone does not command public respect, explaining that trust and confidence must be earned through hard work, good character and professional service.

Bakori’s message reinforces the growing emphasis on intelligence-driven and community-based policing, with respect for human rights and public accountability remaining central to building confidence in law enforcement.
