After a lengthy international break, Premier League action is set to return this weekend, with defending champions Arsenal among the clubs preparing to resume their campaigns.

The 2026/27 season was put on hold after Matchweek 5 because FIFA introduced a longer international window combining the usual September and October breaks.

The international period ran from September 21 to October 6, allowing national teams to play as many as four matches. Premier League football will resume on Saturday, October 10, with Matchweek 6.

Arsenal Face Unbeaten Leeds

Arsenal will open the weekend’s Premier League programme when they welcome Leeds United to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The Gunners return to league action following a disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion in their final game before the break. The result left Arsenal looking to quickly get their title defence back on track.

Leeds, meanwhile, have enjoyed an unbeaten start to life back in the top flight under Daniel Farke. The Yorkshire club are one of only five teams yet to suffer defeat and have achieved a feat they last managed during the 2001/02 Premier League campaign.

The match is scheduled for 12:30pm UK time on Saturday, October 10.

Man United, Tottenham Also in Action

Manchester United will host Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday’s late fixture at Old Trafford.

Both teams will be looking to improve their fortunes when they return from the international break, adding extra pressure to what promises to be an intriguing encounter.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Aston Villa will take on Brentford, Chelsea will face Bournemouth, Ipswich Town will welcome Fulham, while Sunderland will host Brighton & Hove Albion.

Liverpool vs Man City Headlines Sunday

The biggest game of Matchweek 6 comes on Sunday when Liverpool welcome Manchester City to Anfield.

City have won all five of their opening league matches and currently lead the table, while Liverpool have collected nine points from their first five games.

The fixture could also feature a meeting between two of the Premier League’s leading scorers.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has five league goals so far, while Liverpool forward Alexander Isak has four.

However, Liverpool have injury concerns ahead of the encounter. Isak left the Sweden squad with a thigh problem, while Cody Gakpo was withdrawn from the Netherlands camp after suffering an ankle injury.

Havertz Fitness Raises Concern for Arsenal

Arsenal also have an injury issue to monitor after Kai Havertz was withdrawn from Germany duty with a muscle injury.

The Premier League has confirmed that Arsenal had not issued an official update on Havertz’s condition as of its latest international-break report, although media reports have suggested he could be sidelined for several weeks.
