The Gombe State Government has reassured newly deployed members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that their safety and welfare will remain a priority throughout their service year.
The assurance was given during the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members at the NYSC temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
A total of 1,502 corps members were sworn in during the exercise, comprising 803 males and 699 females, according to reports from the ceremony.
The state Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, Abdullahi Waziri, represented Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya at the ceremony and conveyed the state government’s message to the new corps members.
Waziri encouraged the corps members to regard Gombe as their home during their service year and to approach their assignments with dedication while contributing to the development of their host communities.
He said the government would continue to place emphasis on their security and general wellbeing during their stay in the state.
According to the commissioner, security arrangements are put in place whenever corps members arrive in the state, with the aim of providing them with a safe environment to carry out their national service.
Waziri also expressed the hope that future orientation exercises would take place at the state’s permanent NYSC orientation camp once the necessary facilities are completed.
The NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, similarly charged the corps members to make meaningful contributions to the communities where they would be posted.
Nwachuku urged them to obey the law, conduct themselves responsibly and use their service year as an opportunity to make a positive impact across the state.
She also acknowledged the support the Gombe State Government has provided to the NYSC scheme, particularly assistance with facilities at the orientation camp and additional support for feeding during orientation exercises.
The temporary camp at Amada has been used for NYSC orientation activities in Gombe for several years. The state government has previously announced projects aimed at improving accommodation and other facilities for corps members, while the NYSC leadership in the state has repeatedly highlighted government support for feeding during orientation.
Nwachuku also appreciated residents of Gombe for their hospitality towards corps members and encouraged the new batch to adapt to their host communities and contribute positively to local development.
The latest deployment brings another group of young Nigerians into communities across Gombe for the compulsory national service programme, with the state government and NYSC management urging them to combine discipline and responsible conduct with meaningful community development.
