Afrobeats singers Teni and Tiwa Savage have sparked a fresh social media buzz after exchanging a playful challenge over a potential celebrity boxing match.
Teniola Atinuke Apata, popularly known as Teni, issued the challenge in a video shared on social media on Friday, October 2, while discussing the earnings of Nigerian entertainers and the expensive lifestyles associated with some music stars.
Turning her attention to Tiwa Savage, Teni jokingly suggested that the two singers should settle the challenge in a boxing ring.
She also floated a potential ₦1.5 billion purse while talking about the kind of money that could be involved in such an entertainment spectacle. However, the amount has not been announced as an official fight purse.
Teni further joked that she would apologise to Tiwa after the proposed bout and promised to perform Tiwa’s song “My Darling” for her afterwards.
The exchange took another turn when Tiwa Savage responded to Teni’s challenge in the comment section.
“Pick a date,” Tiwa wrote.
The brief response quickly attracted attention from fans, with many interpreting it as Tiwa playing along with the challenge. However, there is currently no confirmed date, promoter, venue, contract or officially organised bout between the two singers.
The proposed showdown comes at a time when celebrity boxing has been attracting increasing attention in Nigeria.
On October 1, 2026, reality television personality Phyna faced actress Nkechi Blessing in a celebrity boxing event in Lagos organised under the Chaos in the Ring series. Phyna won the contest, further drawing public attention to entertainment personalities taking their public rivalries into the boxing ring.
Other entertainers have also participated in bouts under the series, contributing to the growing interest in celebrity boxing as a form of entertainment.
For now, however, the Teni-Tiwa exchange remains a social media challenge rather than a confirmed sporting event.
If an organised bout eventually emerges, details such as the promoter, rules, venue, date and purse would need to be formally announced before the proposed contest can be treated as an official event.
