President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian filmmakers Damilola Osikoya of Switch Visual Production and Nora Awolowo of Rixel Studios after their film Black Market set a Guinness World Record for the largest attendance at a film screening.
The record was achieved on September 26, 2026, during a screening of the movie in Lagos.
Tinubu's congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President praised the filmmakers for their creativity, ambition and entrepreneurial drive, describing the achievement as another demonstration of the talent and potential within Nigeria's growing creative industry.
Tinubu Highlights Nigeria's Creative Economy
According to the statement, Tinubu said the success of Black Market reflects the growing ability of Nigerian creatives to combine artistic talent with enterprise and reach audiences on a global scale.
He also linked the achievement to the wider development of Nigeria's creative economy, noting that sectors such as film, music, fashion and art are creating opportunities for young Nigerians while promoting the country's culture internationally.
The President said achievements of this nature demonstrate the possibilities that exist when Nigerian creativity is supported by business development and the ability to operate at scale.
Record Highlights Growing Influence of Nigerian Film
The Guinness World Record achievement adds another notable moment to Nigeria's expanding presence in the international entertainment industry.
The massive turnout for the Black Market screening in Lagos highlights the ability of Nigerian film productions to attract large audiences while generating attention beyond the country's borders.
Tinubu said the achievement reinforces the importance of creating an environment where young Nigerians can turn their creative abilities into sustainable livelihoods and globally competitive businesses.
President Congratulates Black Market Team
The President extended his congratulations to Osikoya, Awolowo and everyone involved in the production and screening of Black Market.
He wished the filmmakers and the wider team continued success as they build on the record-setting achievement.
The recognition comes as Nigeria's creative industry continues to attract international attention, with filmmakers, musicians, fashion designers and other creatives increasingly taking Nigerian stories and cultural expressions to audiences around the world.
