Reality TV star Phyna and skit maker Carter Efe emerged as the major celebrity winners at the “Chaos in the Ring” Independence Day edition held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event took place on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day, with the boxing card featuring celebrity contests alongside professional championship bouts.

Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, produced one of the biggest moments of the night when she stopped Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing in the fourth round of their scheduled four-round contest.

The victory made Phyna the winner of what reports described as Nigeria’s first female celebrity boxing bout under the Balmoral Promotions series. She was rewarded with ₦50 million and a car following the victory.

The contest followed weeks of public exchanges between the two entertainers, with their disagreement eventually moving from social media and public appearances into the boxing ring.

Phyna relied on her movement and speed during the earlier stages of the fight as Nkechi Blessing pressed forward. The actress continued to apply pressure, but Phyna remained mobile before landing the decisive punch in the final round.

Nkechi was unable to continue after the knockdown, bringing the contest to an end and giving Phyna the stoppage victory.

After the fight, Phyna immediately called out actress Etinosa Idemudia, who was at the venue. Phyna claimed Etinosa had been contacting her through direct messages and challenged her to another celebrity boxing contest.

Etinosa accepted the challenge in front of the crowd, potentially setting up another celebrity bout under the Balmoral Promotions series.

Carter Efe also recorded a victory on the celebrity card, defeating rapper Speed Darlington in their four-round contest.

Unlike the source material's claim of a technical knockout, reports from the event confirm that Carter Efe won by unanimous decision after going the distance. The result allowed him to retain his celebrity boxing title and extended his unbeaten record in the “Chaos in the Ring” series.

Carter had entered the contest as the reigning celebrity boxing champion after defeating singer Habeeb “Portable” Badmus by unanimous decision in May 2026. All three judges scored that earlier three-round contest 30-27 in his favour.

The rivalry between Carter Efe and Speed Darlington had attracted considerable attention before their meeting, with the two entertainers exchanging provocative remarks during promotional appearances.

Their pre-fight tension peaked at a press conference in Lagos, where Speed Darlington kicked a birthday cake presented to Carter Efe to the ground. A separate incident involving firecrackers set off by Carter's entourage also caused a brief fire that was quickly extinguished.

Following his victory, Carter Efe said he wanted to move beyond domestic celebrity opponents and face international personalities. He mentioned American entertainer DDG and former world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. as potential opponents.

The night also featured a professional championship contest between Nigeria's Godday “Zodsolo” Appah and Ghana's Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah.

Gyimah defeated Appah by judges' decision to become the new WBO Africa Light Heavyweight champion, ending the Nigerian boxer's reign as continental titleholder. Multiple reports confirmed the Ghanaian's victory after the championship bout in Lagos.

The event therefore produced major results across both the celebrity and professional sides of the card, with Phyna making history in the women's celebrity contest, Carter Efe retaining his celebrity boxing status and Freezy Macbones taking the WBO Africa Light Heavyweight title back to Ghana.

For Phyna and Carter Efe, the victories added another chapter to their growing involvement in celebrity boxing, while the event further demonstrated the increasing crossover between Nigeria's entertainment industry and combat sports.
