The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery gang over a deadly attack at a residence in the Wofun Olodo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The suspects were arrested on Friday, October 2, 2026, following an intelligence-led investigation into the robbery attack, which occurred in the early hours of August 4.

The victim, identified as 44-year-old Mrs Wahab Rukayat, was killed during the incident, while other occupants of the residence sustained serious injuries, according to the police.

The command's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday.

The three suspects were identified as 28-year-old Akinrinola Oluwatobi, 24-year-old Okunola Mathew and 23-year-old Ibrahim Rabiu.

According to the police, the attack took place at about 2:30am at the residence of Alhaji Olatokunbo in Wofun Olodo, Ibadan. The attackers reportedly stole several mobile phones, wristwatches, $400 and other valuables which the command valued at about ₦3.493 million.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that the investigation be transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit for further action.

The police said investigators used intelligence gathered during the investigation, supported by technology, to identify and locate the suspects. Operatives subsequently carried out a targeted operation at a suspected hideout in the Sabo area of Ibadan at about 9pm on October 2.

An iPhone 7 Plus reportedly belonging to one of the victims was recovered during the operation.

The command further said some surviving victims took part in an identification parade and identified the three suspects as members of the gang allegedly responsible for the August attack.

The suspects have also allegedly confessed to participating in the robbery and the killing of Rukayat, according to the police. The command said their statements also implicated them in the collection of the reported ₦3.493 million obtained during the operation.

The police further said the suspects had allegedly provided information about other robbery incidents around the Wofun Olodo and Akobo areas of Ibadan.

However, the allegations and reported confessions remain subject to the ongoing investigation and any subsequent court proceedings. An arrest or police allegation does not by itself establish criminal guilt.

The Commissioner of Police has directed the Violent Crime Response Unit and other relevant police units to intensify efforts to locate and arrest other suspected members of the gang.

The command is also investigating individuals who may have allegedly received or disposed of property or proceeds connected to the reported robbery operations.

The arrests represent the latest development in the Oyo Police Command's ongoing efforts to investigate violent crimes across Ibadan and identify other people allegedly connected to organised robbery activities in the state.
