Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing Sunday has spoken out following her defeat to reality TV star Phyna in their highly publicised celebrity boxing bout in Lagos.

The actress was stopped by Phyna in the fourth and final round of their scheduled contest at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, on October 1, 2026. The bout was organised by Balmoral Promotions as part of its Chaos in the Ring series.

Following the fight, Nkechi took to Instagram to reflect on the experience, describing herself as a champion despite the official result.

She also suggested that she was not particularly interested in making boxing a new career, joking that it was time to return to her primary profession as an actress.

The actress further revealed that she had only trained for two days before stepping into the ring. Despite the limited preparation, she described her decision to participate as a courageous experience and thanked her coach for supporting her.

Nkechi also reflected on what it meant to enter a boxing ring for the first time. She said she had never previously raised her hands to fight anyone but found herself facing an unfamiliar challenge and going through with it.

While acknowledging the result, she indicated that she would consider taking part in another boxing contest in the future. Her comments suggest that, despite the defeat, she viewed the experience as something memorable rather than simply a loss.

The actress also connected the occasion to the memory of her late mother, Gloria Obasi Sunday. She said she wanted her mother to feel present during the event and had requested that her late mother's favourite song be played before she entered the ring.

Her emotional reflection added a personal dimension to an event that had largely attracted attention because of the public rivalry between her and Phyna before the fight.

Phyna ultimately secured the victory after stopping Nkechi in the fourth round, becoming the winner of the female celebrity bout. Reports from the event said the former Big Brother Naija winner received a ₦50 million prize and a new car following her victory.

Nkechi, however, appeared determined not to let the result overshadow her overall experience. She thanked Balmoral Promotions and other organisers for giving her the opportunity to participate, while making it clear that acting remains her main focus.

For the actress, the celebrity boxing appearance may have been an unexpected departure from the movie sets, but her latest message suggests that her attention is now turning back to Nollywood.
