Nigeria’s Super Eagles have arrived in Guinea-Bissau ahead of their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying fixture, with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirming the team’s arrival on Monday.

The Nigerian delegation landed at Aeroporto Internacional Osvaldo Vieira aboard a chartered Bombardier CRJ900 at about 8:07 p.m. Nigerian time, marking the final stage of preparations for Tuesday’s important encounter.

The team was welcomed at the airport by officials of the Nigerian Consulate, representatives of the Guinea-Bissau Football Federation and members of the Nigerian community living in the country.

Super Eagles Set for Final Training Session

With the match just hours away, the Super Eagles are scheduled to conduct a single training session at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro.

Head coach Eric Chelle and captain Wilfred Ndidi are also expected to address the media before the training session as attention turns to the tactical and physical demands of the qualifier.

The match represents another important opportunity for Nigeria to strengthen its position in the race for qualification for the 2027 AFCON tournament.

NFF Charges Eagles to Go for Maximum Points

NFF Acting General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, addressed the players and officials shortly after their arrival in Bissau.

Ikpeme urged the players to remain focused and return home with the maximum points available.

He, however, cautioned the team against underestimating Guinea-Bissau, pointing to the hosts’ ability to compete strongly in previous international competitions.

The message was clear: despite Nigeria’s pedigree, the Super Eagles must approach the encounter with concentration and respect for their opponents.

Victory Could Strengthen Nigeria’s Group Position

According to CAF, a victory for Nigeria on Tuesday would see the Super Eagles move clear at the top of their qualifying group.

That possibility has added further importance to the fixture, with the Nigerian side expected to approach the game with the intention of maintaining momentum after their previous qualifying performance.

The Eagles will need to combine attacking quality with defensive discipline against a Guinea-Bissau side determined to make home advantage count.

Mitiku to Officiate Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ethiopian referee Tewodros Mitiku as the centre referee for the encounter.

Mitiku will be assisted by fellow Ethiopian officials.

The referee has previously been appointed to officiate a Nigerian match, although he was replaced before that particular fixture took place.

Russia Friendly Awaits Super Eagles

Nigeria’s schedule does not end with the Guinea-Bissau qualifier.

Following the match in Bissau, the Super Eagles are expected to face Russia in an international friendly.

Coach Eric Chelle has selected a largely different group of players for the Russia fixture, meaning attention will quickly shift from AFCON qualification to preparations for the international friendly.

For now, however, the immediate priority remains Guinea-Bissau.

With qualification points at stake and the possibility of moving to the top of the group, the Super Eagles will be looking to make their presence in Bissau count when the two teams meet on Tuesday.
