Tension was reported in the Ojo Road area of Ajegunle, Lagos State, following a suspected clash involving rival cult groups that reportedly left one man dead and another seriously injured.
The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday evening, September 27, 2026, following a dispute involving individuals allegedly associated with the Aye and Vikings confraternities.
According to a report cited by Punch, the incident reportedly began after a member of the Aye group identified as Qudus allegedly stabbed a suspected member of the Vikings confraternity.
Suspected Vikings members were subsequently said to have attacked Qudus, leaving him seriously injured. He was reportedly taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical attention.
The situation allegedly escalated further after suspected members of the Aye group carried out a reprisal attack, during which an unidentified man was reportedly killed around a bus stop on Ojo Road.
There were, however, conflicting accounts over the identity of the deceased. While one account claimed that the man was associated with the Vikings group, members of the rival group reportedly disputed the claim and said the deceased was not a member of their confraternity.
Another account shared on social media also gave a different version of how the confrontation started. An X user identified as Mohawk alleged that four individuals initially went to the area intending to start a fight and that one of them brought an outsider who subsequently attacked Qudus and three other people.
The social media account further alleged that some of those involved were unaware of the outsider's alleged intentions. It also claimed that the individual was reported at a police station and that officers later searched his residence.
However, the Lagos State Police Command had not confirmed the reported clash at the time of publication.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said she was unaware of the incident and indicated that she would contact the relevant divisional police officer or area commander for clarification.
The reported incident comes amid continuing police operations against cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos. The Lagos State Police Command said recently that it had arrested 32 suspects during September operations involving alleged cultism, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and other offences.
For residents of Ajegunle, the latest report has raised fresh concerns about violence associated with rival cult groups in the area. However, details surrounding the identities of those involved, the motive for the confrontation and the circumstances surrounding the reported death remain subject to police investigation.
As of the latest available report, no official police confirmation had been issued establishing the reported sequence of events or confirming the identities and affiliations of those involved.
